OUR HISTORY/GENEALOGY PAGES

Historian or Genealogist? Welcome!

We recognise the very close links we have with genealogists and wish to reflect that in this website. Hence the 'Etc' bit in the address!

Family History researchers often seek out old views of particular locations and genealogy aims are enriched by finding a card actually addressed to, or sent from, an ancestor.... or even finding an old view of your ancestor's house or street!  Check out our History and Genealogy pages below for useful information and links.

CAN YOU HELP ONE OF OUR CUSTOMERS IN THEIR FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH?

Needle in a haystack?
Searching for the name WHEATLAND on vintage postcards

A customer of ours is seeking Reginald Walter Wheatland's (her uncle's) postcard album (or some of his postcards) collected through his correspondence with his family in the UK (prior to their emigration to Adelaide, South Australia in 1921).

We do know that the album was sold last November by an auctioneer in England but the dealer who bought the album has since sold the postcards on.

Reg Wheatland emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1912 with close friends of the family and corresponded closely with his family
through those years.
Reg's wife was called Emily - they had one son, Sydney Walter Wheatland.
The remainder of his family, parents, Susanna and Arthur Wheatland, 4 sisters (Mabel, Edith, Nellie or Isabel, Maud, and brother Alfred went out to Australia in 1921.

The cards/correspondence would probably all include "Reg Wheatland" on them and at least his sisters' or brother's name.

Our customer is tracing her family tree and it would be wonderful if anyone spotting any of these postcards, could get in touch if they were willing to pass them on to her. She would appreciate any assistance or advice anyone can give her to enable her to search for these cards and she is willing to pay
any costs involved.

In the first instance, please get in touch with us and we will forward on any replies to this appeal, to our customer who is in Australia.

Thank you!
